Lavender Womyn is a lesbian social group, which originally started in Salem, Oregon, but has grown so much we have branched off into many chapters througout the country.  Click on the links at the bottom of this web page to visit the Lavender Womyn group you're interested in finding out more about. The group was "unofficially" started on June 1, 2003. We had nineteen womyn and thirteen children who came together for a barbecue. Since then, we've grown to over 400 womyn for the Oregon groups alone! Our age group is all ages. We have womyn in their early 20's up to around age 70 and beyond. Lavender Womyn has been very successful in our area and has helped a lot of women, therefore we'd like to take Lavender Womyn nationwide to help other communities, so if you would like to start a Lavender Womyn's group in your city, please email me and I will get you set up. Lavender Womyn Personals is another way to connect with lesbians from all over the world.  We offer many features including virtual dating, chat, smiles, gifts, and our newest technology called SmartMatch.  No more long questionnaires to fill out.  Our SmartMatch technology does all the work for you. Let's Celebrate 7 years of Lavender Womyn - AUGUST 21, 2010 @ 1:00pm Potluck/BBQ at Kim and Kathy's in Salem, OREGON There will be a potluck/BBQ at Kim and Kathy's home located in Salem on Saturday, August 21st @ 1:00pm.  We will be celebrating 7 years of Lavender Womyn enhancing womyn's lives.  Many friendships, relationships and support has been developed through this group.  So, it's time to come together and enjoy this wonderful network of womyn we have!   Kathy and I will provide hamburgers, veggie burgers and the buns.  An RSVP would be appreciated so we know how much to buy.  I don't want to buy 20 burgers and have 50 women and kids show up, or vice versa.  Please send RSVP's or any questions to:  support@lavenderwomyn.com   We need people to bring the following (if there is no name by the item, then we need it): Lettuce Tomatoes Cheese Diced onions Ketchup, Mustard, Mayo - Dena Pickles - Mercy Relish Dessert - Evy and Marion, Gwin Brownies - Terin Chips Deviled Eggs - Kat and Bea Veggie Tray Side dishes And, anything else you can think of that I might have forgotten to list Let me know which food items you can bring on the list, so we don't get too much of one item and not enough of another.  Send your response to support@lavenderwomyn.com Also, bring a chair or blanket to sit on outside, and your own beverage.  Alcohol is okay, but please drink responsibly.  This is a family event...children are welcome to come.  We have a huge backyard, and lots of toys and video games.  We also have a volleyball net where people can play badminton or play with an oversized volleyball.  Plus, there's a big sand box and a teeter-totter.  And, let's not forgot about basketball. Yes, we have that, too. So, lots to do and play, and lots of space to do it in. I hope you will join us in celebrating a wonderful group of women from all over.  Lavender Womyn now has 14 chapters created with 6 very active ones.  Plus, our Lavender Womyn Personals site has millions of women from all over the world with a virtual dating feature and SmartMatch technology.  And, we've also recently re-designed our logo.  So, lots of reasons to celebrate!

The Story of How it All Began....

Our group was actually started by accident (of course, I don't truly believe it was an accident).  A friend of mine, Fun Linda, and I were talking over dinner one night about having a small barbecue.  Getting a few of her lesbian friends and a few of mine together to meet and build some new friendships.  Originally, we were thinking of maybe 6 or so of us getting together.  Well, over the next few weeks, I started thinking about other womyn I knew and groups who might be interested in attending our barbecue, so I extended the invitation out a little further, and a little further, and a little further.  Next thing I knew, I had a houseful of womyn and children showing up for some socializing, fun and food!!  We had womyn come from as far South as Eugene and as far North as Olympia, Washington.  The funny thing is that my friend, Fun Linda, never made it to the barbecue.  She was stranded over at the coast while I was left trying to handle this barbecue by myself, but everyone was very kind and helped out wherever they could.  We had so much fun, we decided to come together again the next month, and then the next, and the next.  After four months, I saw we had something happening here in Salem.  I saw a huge need being met, friendships being built, relationships growing, and womyn having a great time socializing with one another.  So, I wanted to make this official and come up with a group name.  I had a contest asking the womyn to submit their ideas.  The person who submitted the winning name would receive a prize.  Needless to say, the ideas came pouring in!  It was a lot of fun seeing the creativity of all the different names.  It ended up being a close race between three different ones, but Adeena came up with the name "Wild Lavender Women" and won the contest.  There was some concern expressed about having the word "Wild" in our name (thinking maybe people would get the wrong idea about us laid back, mellow womyn), so I tweaked the name a bit, and that's when "Lavender Womyn" was officially born on October 22nd, 2003!

Some of us are moms, and some of us aren't.  Some of us are single, and others are not.  We have events which include the children, and then sometimes we have the need to just have "adult" time together.  Womyn travel from all over to attend our events, so no matter what your status or where you live, I'm sure you'll find Lavender Womyn to be very open, warm, and welcoming.  Besides, you never know how it may change your life...on June 1st (our very first barbecue) was where I met, Kathy, my soul mate and love of my life!!  So, come join us and have some fun.  You'll be glad you did!!
